Ring training is a key component of CrossFit training. Rings are used for a variety of exercises you'll be asked to do in a typical WOD. Some examples are Ring Dips, Ring Pushups, Muscle Ups and Ring Rows. "Suspension training" is done with rings and similar devices. Doing a pushup on rings is about twice as difficult as a pushup on the ground. Many smaller surrounding muscles are recruited to stabilize you during the exercise, while the larger muscle groups do the brunt of the work.
